More and more evidence of major fuck-up-ery

So I've bitched and bitched and bitched about using WMDs to build the case for going to war.

Why was that such a monumentally bad idea?
Besides that fact that the CIA has been wrong about damn near everything for the past 40 years, we now have to deal with THIS:

Cynicism toward the government has swelled. By 53%-42%, the widest margin ever, those polled said the Bush administration deliberately misled the American public about whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the prime justification given for going to war.

I'm sure he had a snifter in hand while writing.

Everyone's favorite drunken Limey!

I dont know how you can read "Diplomacy" by Kissenger and NOT be seduced by 'realism', or "He may be a bastard, but he's our bastard'. I know for a while I was. I remember bitching to the Euphemism that our soldiers aren't police, and there was NO reason for them to be in Yugoslavia, or its remnants. I think my reasoning on that particular situation holds true - there is nothing of national interest in that region, i.e. OIL.
Iraq & Iran on the other hand, are strategically important, and training our soldiers not so much to be policemen but counterinsurgency operators HAS proven worthwhile.
Now, when we invade China....

Wow. I mean... speechless kind of wow.

New York's Spitzer caught up in prostitution ring.

"The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13," the paper says. "Mr. Spitzer appeared on a CNBC television show at 7 a.m. the next morning. Later in the morning, he testified before a Congressional committee."

Note - dont think this is me reveling in hypocrisy, because Im a HUGE fan of that. What has me sort of shocked & speechless is that he was paying $5500 for a piece of arse. Dont governors have groupies ???

Going back to a previous post wondering about the difference between liberals and conservatives, I think this whole kefluffle perfectly highlights what it means to be conservative: to understand that the perfectibility of man is a myth.
There will always be poor & hungry & stupid & lazy & evil people.
And hubris will always be the downfall of the rich & powerful. LOL

And that ties in nicely with the whole environmental movement - they act as if there was some magical, mystical time when humans lived in harmony with nature.
Bullshit. Life was brutal, nasty and short.
There is a wonderful article, I believe from the Atlantic, about Indians /slash/ Native Americans used to burn whole fucking swathes of the country. It wasnt until honkies arrived that the policy was 'terminated', mainly 'cause all the natives died -- then all of the Northeast reverted to a thick assed forest full of wolves.
I'll try to find it.

UPDATE - The book was "1491" - ENJOY!

Commentators have been on fire recently!

WRT Obama's view of the Constitution as a "living document":

The cliché invoked by Obama of a "living" Constitution disguises the fact that the entrenchment of leftist policy preferences as constitutional rights deprives the political processes of the very adaptability that Breyer and company pretend to favor.

Exactly. If social mores and values change over time, then the electoral process is the easiest way to adapt society to those. The problem appears when politicians devalue the idea of core principles by saying that any and all policies prescriptions are "Rights" - say health care, free housing, minimum wage, etc...
That might be a core argument between "conservatives" and "liberals" -- equal input vs. equal outcome ... but that can be dealt with on another day.

Interesting

So McCain painted himself into a corner by promising to take federal funding, then backing out. He is essentially broke until after the Republican convention.

The good news for him is that Hillary is going to spend the next 7 weeks knee-capping Obama in Pennsylvania, taking the Dems into a contested convention, and providing ample free advertising for all of Obama's foibles.

By the time McCain has money to get back on the air, all he will really need to do is re-run their campaign commercials.

Good times.
Oh, and fuck you, John McCain.

Dirty fucking death cult worshipping hippies part II

Apparently, the laws of economics dont apply to dirty fucking death cult worshipping hippies.

Well, I say bully for San Francisco.
The beauty of federalism: if 51% of the folks decide to piss in your Wheaties -> move.

If the citizens of the city by the Bay want to go bankrupt but feel good about it, I got no problem with that.

FINALLY! Someone with balls calls out State & CIA

Doug Feith "War and Decision" comes out shortly.
It will be nice to finally hear a voice from the wild, pointing out that Colin Powell urged us to (needlessly) use WMDs to make the case for war, that State & CIA officials have long been cutting Bush to ribbons via leaks, and that unelected bureaucrats are a bunch of fucktards.

Kudos, Mr. Feith!

The whole WMD "thing" drives me bonkers. There were 16 prior UN Resolutions (if you care for those kinds of things) giving credence for the invasion. It had been official US policy since '98 to remove Saddam. We had tacitly been at war with him since '91.

Look back at how much fucking trouble came about by relying on WMDs - the entire Plame kerfluffle comes to mind - that completely hamstrung the administration for nearly 3 years. George Tenet and his fucking Medal of Freedom. "Slam dunk" my ass.
All in all, a very bad call.

The practical inability of ANY President, (R) or (D), to go to war in order to defend US national interests has been taken off the table for at LEAST a generation, if not longer. Iran, North Korea and China are acutely aware of this, even if fucktards with Bush Derangement Syndrome are not.
